ecryptfs Home Verzeichnis fehler

Hallo zusammen,

Ich habe mein Home-Verzeichniss mit ecryptfs verschlüsselt. Dies hat die letzten Jahre ohne Probleme funktioniert. Seit Anfang der Woche funktioniert dies nicht mehr.

- Login graphische Oberfläche schlägt fehl
- Login auf Konsole funktioniert jedoch keine Entschlüsselung der Dateien. Ich sehe nur die 2 Symlinks '.ecryptfs' und '.Privat'.

Ich habe nun ein wenig recherchiert und folgendes herausgefunden.

Schon beim Versuch das Modul ecryptfs zu laden kommt eine Fehlermeldung.

modprobe -v ecryptfs
insmod /lib/modules/5.1.4-arch1-1-ARCH/kernel/security/keys/trusted.ko.xz
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'trusted': Bad address

Das Modul ecryptfs ist indirekt abhängig von trusted, welches nicht geladen werden kann.
Hat jemand eine Idee an was das liegen könnte?

Ich glaube an dem Tag wurde auch ein neuer Kernel installiert. Aber ich mache immer einen Neustart, bzw fahre den Laptop Abends herunter.

Schau doch mal ins pacman.log, ob es bei der Installation der letzten Kernelversionen irgendwelche Auffälligkeiten gibt. Hab mein Home ebenfalls mit ecryptfs verschlüsselt und es funktioniert bei mir problemlos.

Ich hoffe, dass du hiervon nicht betroffen bist, aber der 5.1 Kernel hat bis Vers. 5.1.5 einen bug der zu Datenverlust führen kann.

Danke für den Link.
In dem Artikel steht das es ein Problem gibt mit LVM in Verbindung mit dm-crypt, bis zu Kernel 5.1.5.
Oder gilt das für alle Verschlüsselungen mit device-mapper?

Ich habe in meiner fstab discard drinstehen.
Bei meinem anderen Notebook mit gleicher config läuft jedoch alles wie gewohnt.

Was ich noch versucht habe.

Mit einer archlinux Live-CD konnte ich das verschlüsselte Verzeichnis ohne Probleme entschlüsseln.
Die Verschlüsselung und das Dateisystem scheinen also in Ordnung zu sein.

Das sieht gut aus. Die unterschiedlichen Daten bedeuten nur, dass du den Kernel später als ich installiert hast.
Ich hatte vermutet, dass dein Kernelmodul aus irgendeinem Grund defekt ist, was aber offensichtlich nicht der Fall ist.
Zeig bitte nochmal die Ausgabe von

pacman -Qkk linux

PS: Falls du irgendwelche out-of-tree Kernelmodule wie den proprietären Nvidia Treiber oder WireGuard verwendest, deinstalliere diese Mal bitte, sodass der Kernel nicht mehr tainted ist.
Tritt das Problem auch dann noch auf?

Wie ich sehe kam heute der Kernel 5.1.5 ins repo.

Habe mal ein 'pacman -Syu' gemacht.
Dann einen neustart.

Mach bitte als Ausschlussdiagnose ein

 pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/<letzter kernel der noch lief>

Zumindest dürfte dann der kernel als Ursache ausgeschlossen sein.

Wenn das nichts bringt, könntest du Testweise versuchen einen neuen Benutzer anzulegen und danach ein neues desktop z.B. Xfce zu installieren.

Das Modul "acpi_call" tainted deinen Kernel.
Woher kommt das?

find /lib/modules -name "*acpi_call*"

Und auf das Resultat:

pacman -Qo <pfad>

Ggf. das Modul einfach mal blacklisten.

Update:
Das Modul kommt wohl aus einem der "acpi_call*" Pakete.
Am besten mal das Modul blacklisten und gucken, ob das hilft.
Ich sehe auch, dass du im Kernel IPv6 per Parameter deaktivierst.
Kannst du das Modul "trusted" laden, wenn IPv6 aktiv ist?

Habe das Modul acpi_call geblacklistet.
Neustart
Selbe Fehlermeldung.

Ja ipv6 habe ich per Kernelparameter deaktiviert, und zwar seit der Installation am 17.09.2011. Hatte noch nie Probleme damit. Aber um dies auszuschließen  machen wir das mal.

So, jetzt acpi_call geblacklistet und ipv6 im Kernelparameter auskommentiert.

Gleicher Fehler.
Das Modul 'trusted' meldet immer noch Bad address.

Was mir noch einfallen würde:
Ist zu diesem Zeitpunkt denn das Modul tpm auch/schon geladen?
Denn die Abhängigkeiten der Kernelmodule ist so (ich bin hier noch bei Kernel 5.1.2, daß sollte aber egal sein):

ecryptfs braucht encrypted-keys
encrypted-keys braucht trusted
trusted braucht tpm
tpm braucht rng-core
(Das kann man mit modinfo modulnamen sehen).

D.h. du müßtest mal prüfen nach einem frischen Boot und einem Versuch mit:
modprobe -vv ecryptfs
ob nach dem Fehlschlag trotzdem die Module rng-core und tpm geladen sind (lsmod). Am besten nach dem versuch auch mal eine Ausgabe von lsmod posten.
Den einzigen Hinweis, daß die Probleme ggf. schon früher als mit dem trusted-Modul anfangen ist im dmesg-Output der Hinweis, das irgendwas mit TPM abgestellt wäre:

Ob diese Meldungen mit den Hauptproblem was zu tun haben, da bin ich mir unsicher.

Zwei andere Dinge, die aber mit o.A. zu tun haben könnten:
//Edit: bitte beide Dinge unten(a und b) getrennt voneinander ausprobieren, sonst kann man nicht sagen was nun geholfen hätte.

a) Nutzt du das Intel-Microcode-Update Paket, ist also das Paket intel-ucode bei dir installiert und auch im Bootmanager aktiviert?

Wenn nein, dann würde ich das mal tun.

b) In deiner dmesg-Ausgabe sieht man an den Zeiten eine große "Lücke" zwischen den Kernelmeldungen bis hin das der
Random-Number/Entropie-Kernelteil schließlich einsatzbereit wäre:

Das *könnte* ein Hinweis darauf sein, das bestimmte Funktionen im Zusammenspiel von Hardware und Kernel ebenfalls nicht ordnungsgemäß initialisiert worden sind, und schlußendlich beim Versuch das Modul trusted zu laden eben zu jener "bad address"-Meldung führen. Festplattenverschlüsselung ist hochgradig von einem funktionierendem Komplex bei Zufallszahlengenerierung und Entropie abhängig.
Dagegen kannst du zweierlei Dinge tun:
1. Wenn deine CPU es unterstützt, also wenn

lscpu |grep rdrand

eine Ausgabe ergibt, dann kannst du

random.trust_cpu=on

zu deinen Kernelparametern hinzufügen und damit booten und testen.
2. Oder du installierst und aktivierst dir das Paket haveged

Beides ermöglicht dem Kernel/System im frühzeitigen Stadium schon genug "zufällige Ereignisse" zu verwerten, um daraus wirklich "zufällige Zahlen/Werte" zu generieren. Siehe auch:

Das sollte zu einem die o.a. "Lücke" im dmesg-Ausgabe verkleinern, also auch zu einem schnelleren Boot führen. Und behebt ggf. (meine Hoffnung) auch, das eben die notwendigen Module für encryptfs geladen werden könnten.

Zweifels ohne versteht ihr sehr viel mehr von der Materie.
Trotz allem bin ich der Meinung, dass es wenig schaden kann, den Versuch zu machen, einmal ein kernel downgrade durchzuführen.

Das ist für mich der Hinweis, dass ein kernel Downgrade durchaus Erfolg haben kann.
Natürlich ist das keine bleibende Lösung und das Problem sollte dann anschließend auch weiter analysiert werden.
Viel verloren hätte man m.M. bei einem Versuch nicht.
Aber wenn es klappt hätte man a) schon mal ein laufendes System was einen Wert an sich darstellt und b) den Fehler enger eingegrenzt.

Das wird nicht funktionieren da ich nach einem Update immer ein 'pacman -Scc' mache. Mein cache ist also immer leer, habe ich auch in den letzten Jahren nie gebraucht.
